Boarding

We have extensive experience in barn managment in Kentucky and depend upon experienced local veterinarians and horse professionals to help us develop our protocols for horse care.

All horses coming to Léttleiki Icelandics must have a current coggins and health certificate as well as all immunization records! Please read our boarder letter for detailed information about what is required before arrival and what we offer.

Owners sending their horses in training or to board must fill out the Boarding Contract and Release and Waiver.

Stall Board

  • The barn has 26 stalls.

  • Most stalls are 12’x12’.

  • Occasionally two horses may share stalls as is traditional in Iceland to allow for natural herd behaviors such as mutual grooming.

  • Barn was designed for optimal horse health with excellent ventilation, good lighting, hot and cold wash stall, and a specialized farrier station.

  • Easily accessible paddocks and pastures are located around the barn for regular turnout schedules.

  • Turnout schedules depend on each horse’s body condition, weather, and herd grouping.

  • Natural forage-based diets are supplemented with hay as needed 2-3x per day, we offer a wide variety of hay types to best suit each horse’s dietary needs.

  • Grain and supplements are fed as needed for horses who need additional nutritional supplementation. We are supporters of of Kentucky Equine Research and Hallway Feeds grains and supplements and we tailor our feed program specifically for each horse as needed. Our experienced barn managers and trainers can make recommendations if desired.

  • Automatic waterers.

  • Salt or mineral blocks provided as well.

Pasture Board

  • Available for horses on break, young and retired horses and broodmares.

  • Regular pasture/paddock rotation schedule.

  • Separate paddock/run-in facilities for pregnant mares during the last 60-90 days of gestation to prevent fescue toxicity.

Board Rates Available Upon Request

As the cost of hay fluctuates depending on type and availability annually we adjust our rates frequently to match these costs.
